An anonymous woman from Kentucky, known as Mary Poe, has filed a lawsuit against the state in an effort to overturn its pro-life law, which protects most preborn children from abortion. In her legal complaint, Poe claims that ending her pregnancy was the best choice for her and her family. At the time, she was approximately seven weeks pregnant and argued that being unable to access an abortion in Kentucky would cause her “severe harm.” Feeling frustrated by the state’s restrictions, Poe traveled out of state to seek an abortion where it was still legal.
