BREAKING: ACLU Drops Lawsuit Against Kentucky’s Pro-Life Laws – A Major Victory for Life

Louisville, KY — In a powerful and prayer-answered moment for the pro-life community, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kentucky has officially withdrawn its class action lawsuit known as the “Mary Poe” case, marking a resounding victory for life, law, and the people of Kentucky.
The case, Poe v. Coleman, had been a direct legal challenge to Kentucky’s Human Life Protection Act and Heartbeat Law—two of the most significant legislative protections for unborn life in the state. The voluntary dismissal ensures that these critical laws remain intact, continuing to save lives and uphold Kentucky’s strong pro-life stance.
“This is a decisive moment in affirming Kentucky’s commitment to protecting life at every stage,” said Addia Wuchner, Executive Director of Kentucky Right to Life. “The dropping of this case is a testament to the will of the people of Kentucky, the prayers of pro-life advocates, the courage of our elected officials—and the steadfast commitment of Attorney General Russell Coleman and his legal team.”
The announcement came just about an hour after the publication of Kentucky Right to Life’s May Life Letter and Update, adding extra significance and joy to the timing of the news.
A Victory Rooted in Faith and Advocacy
Pro-life Kentuckians have been prayerfully and persistently engaged since the case began. Their efforts—alongside the tireless legal defense led by Attorney General Coleman—have played a key role in safeguarding laws that affirm the value and dignity of every human life, especially the most vulnerable.
“This is a moment for prayerful gratitude and renewed strength,” Wuchner continued. “This legal victory affirms both the constitutionality and the moral necessity of Kentucky’s pro-life laws.”
